Overview.
The MS in Agricultural Engineering is oriented toward executing engineering solutions for feed, fiber, and food production problems and/or postharvest processing problems. Problems addressed by this degree are generally at or beyond the field scale; however, solution approaches frequently begin at the bench-scale level.
Program Description
The MS in Agricultural Engineering degree provides an opportunity for learning advanced data analyses skills and original research presentation skills. Problem definition skills are also stressed. The MS in Agricultural Engineering will preserve and continue the enduring legacy of Agricultural Engineering research at the University of Georgia.
Faculty are engaged in research advancing mainly the areas of Sustainable Food Systems and Natural Resources Engineering.
Admission
Students holding a B.S. degree or M.S. in engineering from an ABET accredited program or a B.S. or M.S. in a related field from an accredited institution are invited to apply for admission to masters or doctoral programs. Students not having an ABET accredited B.S engineering degree but having degrees in math or physical/biological science or other disciplines may be asked to take additional selected course work to adequately prepare them for their specific engineering studies.
Base requirements for consideration for admission to the College of Engineering’s Graduate Programs are listed below. Specific degree programs and emphasis areas may add additional requirements:
- Completion of a B.S. and M.S. (for Ph.D. applicants) with a minimum GPA of 3.00 (out of 4.00) from an ABET accredited program or program in a related field.
- Submission of the online UGA Graduate School Application and submission of:
- Official undergraduate and graduate academic transcripts.
- A statement of purpose.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- CV or resume.
- General Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores. Average Quantitative GRE scores of recently accepted students range near the 80th percentile. Applicants holding a UGA degree may waive this requirement if they meet GPA and undergraduate research requirements.
- TOEFL is required for international students whose native language is other than English.
- Transcript evaluations prepared by World Education Services (WES) or another approved credentialing agency are required for students who obtained degrees outside of the United States.
- Additional requirements may be applicable for admission to discipline-specific M.S. and Ph.D. Programs and Emphasis Areas offered through the College’s schools.
Program of Study
General guidelines for selecting courses for the program of study consistent with the College of Engineering requirements for the M.S. are for the student to have approximately 1/3 quantitative courses (e.g., math, finite element, and statistics), 1/3 supporting sciences courses available in many departments across campus, and 1/3 engineering courses. Typical choices for engineering and supporting science courses in each area are shown below. Students work with their graduate advisor and their committee to provide guidance in formulating the final plan of study so that it complements the chosen research area.
