With today's advancing technologies comes the increasing threat of cybercrime. The National Cyber Security Strategy makes clear the importance of good network defences in securing the UK. GCU has developed a suite of programmes which provide the opportunity to be at the forefront of defending cyberspace from sophisticated malicious attacks and future threats.
Computer Networking provides an in-depth knowledge of the IT network infrastructure needed to run large enterprise and wide area network deployments. It focuses on the specification, design, deployment and troubleshooting of complex network topologies. We have the best networking labs in Scotland and teach this subject to CISCO ‘network professional' standards.
Your career
Enter the communication networks, security engineering and digital forensics sector, an industry which employs one in three of all jobs within the IT sector. Our computer networking engineering graduates could find themselves working in IT/network infrastructure support or as a network engineer.
For new international students, orientation events start on 14 September 2018 . This extra time is specifically designed to assist new international students in settling into the UK and GCU prior to the start of general student induction and teaching.
There will be a whole host of fun and informative activities taking place during this period, including campus and city tours, as well as welcome events where you can meet other international students.
An optional one-year industrial placementcan be taken after completion of Year 3.
We have full industrial standard CISCO labs where networks can be analysedand investigated for vulnerabilities. These allow the students to plan, design, implement, secure and troubleshoot complex enterprise class networks. These labs are the largest in Scotland supported by over 200 devicesRecent investments in our virtualized distance learning platform enablesstudents to continue their learning off campus, this includes our innovativeNetlab online laboratory system supporting both networking and digital security modules.
