In general, the Criminal Justice degree seeks to enhance critical thinking abilities, communication skills, and conceptualize complex problems. Advanced courses help the student to process and apply information reliably while developing skills in research methodology. Understanding the history, philosophy, and organization of the agencies of criminal justice, together with an opportunity for practical experience in one or more of them, is the program's goal.

Upon graduation, criminal justice students may pursue graduate studies or a professional career in law enforcement, corrections, parole, probation, court administration, or the juvenile justice system.
