The major environmental issues (climate change, erosion of biodiversity, protection of vital natural resources such as water, air, and soil) and societal issues (political and economic crisis linked to the process of globalization of trade, inequality of access to natural resources, food stakes for a growing population) mark the first decades of the 21st century, as well as innovative solutions, combining local dimensions and multi-actor and multi-scalar networks.
This master program is built based on a perspective describing the professions' evolution in the environment with many professionals involved. Several observations have emerged: the environmental dimension is essential in public decision-making. Climate change and the preservation of resources (biodiversity, water, soil) require adapting development and spatial planning scenarios. Several laws (energy transition, biodiversity laws, the Water Framework Directive, etc.) provide an evolving regulatory framework. New agricultural models placing the environment at the centre of technical practices are emerging. The productive question of agriculture comes back to public issues via food. Urban public decisions affect rural areas.
It has two specific characteristics that are necessary to approach complex environmental issues (natural resources management, food systems):
the close link between engineering and social sciences in order to understand the complexity of processes linked to these objects: multi-stakes, multi-actors
the approach to these issues at the systemic level of the territory.
Based on close interactions between the scientific world and the professional world, it responds to new public demands for managing resources and territories responding to society's significant stakes in the environmental, agricultural, and food fields.
Examples of the variety of occupations and positions available for the Master TEAM students:
Coordinator of territorial projects (watersheds, territorial food projects)
Development officer in local authorities
Development group leader
Responsible for studies in development and environment
Consultant on ecological and social issues related to territorial projects
Service providers drinking water, sewage, waste, hydraulic
Risk Manager for Environmental Assessment
Future sectors of employment of Master TEAM students in a wide field of employment sectors in the public, para-public and private domains:
Consular chambers and technical institutes
Institutions for territorial management
Design offices
Local authorities
Agricultural development and civil society groups
Research and higher education organizations
Associations and foundations
Large companies
Students who have graduated with a Master's Degree may also pursue a thesis at our co-accredited doctoral schools, particularly the EGAAL doctoral school (Economics, Geosciences, Agronomy, Food) and the doctoral school STT (Societies Temps Territoires).
The French School of Agriculture, Food, Horticultural and Landscape Sciences (AGROCAMPUS OUEST) is an internal school of the National Institute of Higher Education for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, called the "Insitut Agro".
The National Institute of Higher Education for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, or "the Institut Agro," was created on January 1st, 2020, by merging 2 existing Higher Education Agricultural Institutions: Agrocampus Ouest (AO) and Montpellier SupAgro (MSA).
The newly created Institute is designed to provide France with a leading, university-level institution focusing on food, agriculture, and the environment. It has three main aims: to train students, conduct academic and applied research, and transfer knowledge to society.
Every year, the Institute trains over 3,750 agricultural engineers, Master's and PhD students on its 5 campuses to address the world's societal and environmental challenges through a systemic approach. It employs 210 research-lecturers, working in 36 research units. A dedicated International Team with a hands-on approach works alongside academics and researchers.
