The Master of Science (M.S.) in Literacy Education is designed as a pathway to professional certification in Literacy at either the childhood (B-6) or adolescence (5-12) levels, or both. The Old Westbury degree is designed for educators who already possess initial, professional, or permanent certification in Education and seek professional certification and/or an advanced degree in Literacy Education.

The SUNY Old Westbury School of Education offers academic programs offering bachelor's and master's degrees and meeting both the State of New York's initial and professional certification requirements. The New York State Education Department approves our programs, and we are proud members of the American Association of Quality Educator Preparation, anticipating AAQEP Accreditation in early 2022.

The Old Westbury degree programs provide professional courses and extensive field experience, including student teaching. All courses are designed to achieve competencies identified by local school district personnel and prescribed by the New York State Education Department.
