Become a licensed K–12 teacher in Minnesota and choose from seven emphasis areas to specialize your degree for your goals. With Southwest Minnesota State University, you can earn your Master of Science in Education in two to three years and study a curriculum aligned with the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. SMSU accepts up to nine transfer credits, and a background in education is not required to apply.
Emphasis options include technology, reading, TESL, sports leadership, English, mathematics, and teaching, learning, and leadership. Students who pursue the Reading and TESL specialties graduate with Minnesota licensure in these areas.
Throughout your program, you will master the latest teaching strategies while building leadership skills in a collaborative learning environment. Because courses are delivered in a flexible online format, you can complete your degree while continuing to work full-time. The MS in Education program is led by doctoral-level professors who bring valuable expertise in teaching and their content to the online classroom.
When you finish your program, you will have the advanced knowledge and skills needed to work in K–12 schools, higher education, and more. Whether you are beginning your education career or ready to advance, a master's degree from SMSU can help you achieve lifelong success as an educator.
