BS in Agricultural Sciences

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Agricultural Sciences. We are committed to providing students outstanding training in teaching, research, and service areas related to agriculture. Faculty and staff within the Department are dedicated to preparing students for success in the marketplace after graduation.

Students can develop their academic interests while pursuing a BS degree with concentrations in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Plant & Soil Science, and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Students are also encouraged to participate in the many co- and extracurricular activities aimed at providing invaluable leadership and personal development skills. These activities include our Chancellor’s Apprenticeship program, JAGS in AG, Jagriculture, Minorities in Agriculture Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), Ag Sciences Club, and Animal Science Pre-Vet Club.

The College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences embraces a mission consistent with the University's tripartite mission of teaching, research, and public service.

The academic program prepares students for professional careers in food, fiber, natural resources, family and consumer sciences, and agricultural sciences using innovative strategies, up-to-date technologies, and current information. The program provides students with the fundamentals underlying their chosen disciplines, practical application and solutions to discipline-related problems, and opportunities to transfer knowledge to others in a variety of formal and informal settings.

The research program addresses problems that hold promise for enhancing agricultural productivity and profitability while protecting the environment. This research is valuable for improving the quality of life and well-being of the people of Louisiana and society in general.
