MA/ PgCert/ PgDip Sports Management
These postgraduate programmes were developed in conjunction with the Bristol Business School and provide students with the opportunity to explore the concept of Sports Management. The MA delivers, from an academic perspective, the development of a conceptual understanding of the processes that underpin the effective management of sports services and events. This is done through the identification of clients’ needs, the application of financial and human resources and the development of business proposals and plans.
The programme comprises both taught modules and a management dissertation (incorporating research methods) which are coherently structured to afford students the opportunity to build on pure business principles and apply them to Sports Management.
Upon commencement of the programme, you will be assigned a personal academic tutor to support you throughout the duration of your studies and to help you formulate your individual goals and interests.

Teaching, learning and assessment
Traditional lectures will only be one part of your course. You’ll also learn through syndicate work, group and individual presentations and discussions, student-led seminar groups, analysis and application of case studies and experiential learning and simulations, including roleplays. Guest speakers from industry and professional bodies also contribute to the programme. These innovative methods create an environment that is enjoyable, varied and hugely effective.
Careers
As a postgraduate student from our Sports Management programme, you have the potential to pursue a range of careers; in particular, those related to the vast sports management industry. Alternatively, you may decide to follow an academic career and progress on to a PhD.
Entry requirements
You should be a UK graduate with a 2:2 Honours degree with relevant content, or an international graduate with the equivalent qualification. Students with non-relevant qualifications but with two or more years of relevant work experience can also apply.
Programme length
The Postgraduate Certificate is a part-time programme, run between September and June of one academic year. The Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management can be studied on a full time or part-time basis. It can be a one-year full-time programme or it can be a progression route from the Postgraduate Certificate, in which case it is a one year part-time programme. Both options run between September and June of one academic year.
The Master's programme can be studied as a full-time taught programme and completed in a twelve month period (September to August). If this programme is a progression from the Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management then it will be studied on a part-time basis.
