Story is King

Extending beyond the boundaries of field production, effective filmmaking requires research, planning, collaboration, dedication, and — most importantly — an inspired story. The FSU Film School has designed a 3-year Production major within the 4-year degree that teaches you the craft, educates you in the business and inspires you in the art of visual storytelling.

In a conservatory setting, our immersive curriculum prepares you for a multi-faceted career in the filmmaking industry. You’ll learn how to perform each role on set as you rotate through the crew positions on other student films, giving you a well-rounded understanding of each position’s impact on the storytelling process.

You will work one-on-one with faculty and visiting filmmakers who are industry experts with a gift for teaching. As true mentors, your professors will guide you through each step of the filmmaking process, offering their knowledge and creating relationships that will continue beyond your time at FSU.

From pre-production to post-production, storytelling remains the defining feature of our Bachelor of Fine Arts program. While putting passion into practice, your time at the FSU Film School will provide you with industry-standard skills and a story-first education to lay the foundation of your career in filmmaking.

A Legacy of Film Education in Florida

In 1989, the Florida State Legislature founded a flagship program in Tallahassee designed to prepare young filmmakers for successful careers in the entertainment industry.

Decades later, the presence of the Florida State University Film School can be seen throughout the industry, producing award-winning alumni and acknowledged as “one of the world’s best” by The Hollywood Reporter.
