This program prepares students to provide nursing care to a varied clientele. These healthcare professionals work in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, medical clinics, as well as home care agencies.
Collège de l'Île has two campuses: in Wellington (in the west of the province) and in Charlottetown (the provincial capital). Regular programming is available from these two campuses. We use videoconferencing and the Vidyo system as a means of delivering courses in all of our programs. You therefore have the possibility of following your theoretical courses from both campuses. For the practical nurse program, the nursing laboratory is located at the Wellington campus. So, if you take your theory classes at the Charlottetown campus, you will have to make your own way to the Wellington campus for the lab work.
Approval
Organization: Association of Licensed Practical Nurses of New Brunswick (ANBLPN); this accreditation is recognized by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island (CLPNPEI).
The practical nursing program is accredited by ANBLPN. It is considered by this order to be equivalent to auxiliary nursing at the CCNB. Program accreditation requires the student to pass 75% for all courses in order to be eligible to take the Practical Nurse Licensing Examination in Canada (CRPN). Passing this exam entitles you to a license to practice the profession. National exam fees are the responsibility of the student.
A partnership agreement between the CCNB and the Collège de l'Île leads to the obtaining of a double diploma.
Collège de l'Île has existed under that name since June 23, 2008, the date on which it received its official title of French-language community college from the government of Prince Edward Island.
In 2006, the Société éducative opened a second Adult Training Centre at the Carrefour de l'Île-Saint-Jean in Charlottetown, making college education available to Acadian and Francophone adults outside the Évangéline Region. Since 2012, the Charlottetown campus has been at 111 Grafton Street.
In 2007, the Société éducative continued its progress by establishing a third center, this one at the Centre acadien de Prince-Ouest in Deblois. This made training accessible in the western part of the province.
In 2008, Collège de l'Île signed a collaboration agreement with the Prince Edward Island Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, confirming its official status as a publicly funded French-language community college. The agreement was renewed in 2013.
The Société éducative still exists because it is the legal entity behind Collège de l'Île The Board of Directors, responsible for overall management of the Collège, consists of a representative from the Acadian and Francophone community (represented by the Société Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin), the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning and Holland College, two representatives from the economic sector and one representative each of the Collège's students and its teaching staff.
