The Department of Biological Sciences and Pre-Health Professions Programs at Chicago State University is uniquely equipped to help our students fulfill their dreams and goals of becoming leaders in the profession and intellectual world.
Through small class sizes and mentoring, we take pride in our individualized approach to guiding our students from their entry from high schools and community colleges through completion of their degree and launching their professional careers, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, environmental science, optometry, physician assistant, environmental agencies and secondary school teaching .
Our flexible course options allow greater access for working students, whether to retrain for a new career path or prepare for admission to graduate schools or a variety of professional programs. Our highly-trained faculty value involving undergraduate students in their research programs and we excel in providing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate research.
Our department has excellent facilities and equipment, including a core microscopy facility with both scanning and transmission electron microscopes, a fluorescence-activated cell sorter, comprehensive anatomy labs [including cadavers], a greenhouse, and a new aquaponics center. Through our Pre-Health Professions program, graduate school advisors, and clubs, we maintain a comprehensive support system to help students navigate through the application process for graduate/professional schools, and we are very successful in placing students with such programs.
