Bachelor in Political Science

Advise governments, organizations, or businesses on political issues. Continue on to law school and become a federal prosecutor or litigation attorney. Serve as a campaign staff member in the next presidential election cycle. In addition to providing a solid foundation for continuing on to graduate school or law school, a political science degree can lead to an exciting career in government, business, education, or politics after graduation from BVU.

As part of your studies, you will work closely with highly qualified faculty and gain an ample understanding of the political forces that shape our lives. You will develop critical thinking, research, and communication skills, as well as acquire sophisticated knowledge of political behavior, governmental processes, constitutional principles, the law, and global affairs. Early on, you will develop professional skills through world-class internships, research projects, co-curricular activities and travel opportunities. These practical, hands-on applications will enhance your overall learning experience, broaden your perspectives, and provide you with valuable preparation for a wide variety of careers. As a political science major at BVU, you will hone your analytical and problem-solving abilities and become a more socially responsible and active citizen. Because the political science major complements a variety of other programs, including English, public administration, science or business, many students often declare it as a second major.

Program Features

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars

BVU has a longstanding relationship with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, an organization that matches students with internships in Washington, D.C. The Washington Center has placed BVU students in the White House (Bush, Clinton and Obama administrations), the Smithsonian Institution, Congress, law firms, policy think tanks, the Department of the Interior, and various law enforcement agencies. Most recently, three BVU political science students interned in Washington D.C. at locations that included the White House, a law firm, and the Naval History and Heritage Command.

Most programs coordinated by The Washington Center last one semester. In addition to arranging internships, The Washington Center provides high-quality housing and helps students manage aspects of life in Washington. All participating students are considered for financial support and qualify for the Lamberti Washington Internship fund to help offset living expenses.

Mock Trial

BVU was among the 12 original members of the _American Mock Trial Association _ , which started in 1985 and today has over 500 registered teams. In recent years, the BVU team has earned trophies for “best attorney” and “best witness” at regional competitions. Students are also able to earn academic credit by participating in the program.
