B.A. Educação Física

The physical education degree consists of three parts: two at university and one at teacher training college. A Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) which takes six semesters is the basis, followed by a Master’s (M.Ed.) of four semester duration. The actual teacher training qualification is completed at a teacher training college. It takes 18 months and finishes with the Second State Exam.

In addition to Physical Education, teaching candidates must study an additional subject, as teachers in Germany must teach at least two subjects. As the German Sport University Cologne only offers Physical Education, the other subject must be studied at a different university. Please note that this is an additional application process at a different university.

The Physical Education degree course targets young people who can see themselves working as teachers and who would like to contribute to motivating and convincing children and young people how important regular exercise is. It is an essential prerequisite to have a personal interest in sport so that the candidate can be a good role model.

Due to its wide range of subject fields, the German Sport University Cologne holds a special position amongst the universities on a national and international level. Its research, teaching, further education and consultation activities revolve around sport and exercise as a common and comprehensive point of reference.

The university consequently strives to take the structural change in sport and exercise science into account and emphasises the increasing significance of sport and exercise regarding health, social policy and the economy. Accordingly, the university has greatly expanded the spectrum of tasks and fields of application for sport and exercise science, in the hope of creating new, innovative solutions.
