Data Science is the collective name for various kinds of methods that are used to analyze large quantities of complex data, also known as big data. Data science provides critical support to decision-makers in many professions, allowing them to make decisions based on information specific to their particular circumstances.

About the Programme

Data science is based primarily on the areas of informatics such as programming, data mining, artificial intelligence, and visualization. It is used in many application areas, such as business intelligence, the detection of anomalies in patterns of behaviour, analysis of services in cloud computing, and bioinformatics and genetics.

The Focus of Your Studies

The program focuses on three main areas: intelligent data analysis, programming, and decision support. Example courses are artificial intelligence, data mining, programming, visual analytics, and business intelligence.

The University of Skövde has a strong research profile in informatics. This means that after graduation there are excellent opportunities for you to continue your studies and pursue a doctoral degree. All of the teachers in the program have experience in data science research and the majority are working on ground-breaking projects so that students are exposed to the latest trends in this important and exciting area.

The University of Skövde offers a wide range of postgraduate studies and International Master's programs taught in English as well as three Bachelor's programs.

Research for Change

The researchers at the University of Skövde want to contribute to making changes. That is why our research efforts are carried out in tight collaboration with our community. Furthermore, the research has a clear connection to the education at the university.

Our aim is that the university's research should make a difference locally, nationally as well as internationally. The share of the research that receives external funds is 66% (2019), and our principal contributors are KK-stiftelsen (The Knowledge Foundation), the EU, the Region Västra Götaland, and private companies.

The University of Skövde has five research fields. Three of these are Systems Biology, Informatics, and Virtual Engineering. These three form the foundation for INFINIT. The university's joint theme of Digitalization for Sustainable Development should always be integrated into all research projects and environments to the greatest extent possible.
