Opis programu

Living with diversity, and above all learning from and with it, is a necessary requirement for the harmonious development of today's societies. The master's degree arises from the verification that in educational settings, both formal and non-formal, this diversity is present.

Neither the institutions nor the professionals who work in them can ignore this situation, having to attend to the demands that society claims through the affected individuals and groups. There are numerous references that, in the different educational regulations (eg Organic Law 2/2006 of Education, Royal Decree 1513/2006, of December 7, for which the minimum teachings of Primary Education are established; Decree 130/2007, of June 28, for which the primary education curriculum is established in the Autonomous Community of Galicia...), suggest the need for teachers and teachers of the different stages to address educational intervention paying special attention to the diversity of the student body.

Despite the relevance that the legislation grants to this aspect, the training currently received by teachers of the different educational levels, as well as management teams, counselors, social educators and other socio-community professionals, does not contemplate the subject in a holistic way. of diversity. For this reason, it is necessary to qualify the professionals who practice in these complex labor fields, some of them emerging, thus adapting their training and professional performance to the new demands of a reality in which equal time, compensation for inequalities is claimed. , and the right to difference.

In order to cover this formative gap, the academic organization of this master's degree contemplates differences originated by both personal, cultural and community traits, reflecting the real situation that occurs in the current educational and social world. Professionals related to the educational field will have the opportunity to reflect and acquire skills to act in contexts in which a diversity may be present caused by personal abilities, gender, age, linguistic and cultural systems, as well as different socioeconomic situations, environments that are collected in the broad framework of attention to diversity.

The master's degree reflects the diversity contained in the Organic Law 2/2006, of May 3, on Education, which, in its title dedicated to Equity in Education, includes the fields that are dealt with in this master's:

  • Students with special educational needs.
  • The student body with high intellectual abilities.
  • The student body with late integration into the Spanish educational system.
  • The compensation of inequalities in education, which also covers equal opportunities in the rural world.

In addition, the master's degree is coherent and promotes university studies related to the educational field, formal and non-formal, and with those that are integrated into the social services that support the good work of educational institutions, not coinciding, moreover, with their contents with no other Galician postgraduate program.

It relates and expands the training offered by the Degree in Early Childhood Education, Degree in Primary Education, Degree in Social Education, Degree in Social Work, integrated both in the Galician university system and in the University of Vigo, degrees all of which are socially demanded, as can be seen in the evolution of the enrollment of the last academic years.

Both the modules in which the master's degree is structured, as well as its teaching staff (academic training, lines of research and professional experience) and the work areas in which the planned internships will be carried out, adequately integrate the interdisciplinary nature and the degree of specialization necessary to attend to the training and professional profiles required to act in diversity.
