Introduction In response to the ever-growing demand for quality business education at senior managerial level in mainland China, the Faculty of Business Administration introduces a postgraduate degree program - Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) - in China in cooperation with the School of Management, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) in 2004. This EMBA program is strategically positioned in Western China (Xian, Chengdu) with an aim to nurture management talents who actively participate in the development of Western China as a result of the recent national policy and preferential investment policy.
The School of Management at Xi'an Jiaotong University, our mainland partner, would contribute part of the teaching faculty and programme administration in China. A strategic relationship is fostered across the strait via the extension of alliance with the School of Economics and Management at Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, Sichuan and the College of Management at National Chiaotung University in Hsinchu, Taiwan. This alliance would create a platform for future academic exchanges and programme development between CUHK and the partners involved.
With successful completion of the programme and satisfactory fulfilment of CUHK Graduate School's requirements, participants will earn an Master of Business Administration Degree conferred by CUHK and a postgraduate diploma conferred by XJTU. To satisfy the AACSB-International accreditation requirements, two-thirds of this EMBA programme will be taught by full-time faculty members of CUHK. The programme offers a total of twenty-one courses carrying either 3 units or 1.5 units as specified in the programme structure. CUHK faculty members will be responsible for 33 units while SWJTU will covers a 3 units course and XJTU will cover 12 units of courses out of the total 48 units throughout the programme.
Programme Objectives The unprecedented speed of China's Economic Reform accelerated by China's accession to the WTO and the rise of China's enterprises in the global arena creates a pressing demand for professional senior managers with profound understanding of market economies and international practices. This EMBA (China) programme aims to make contributions to improve the human capital of China in the globalisation era.
Programme Aims
- To equip the participants with a thorough grasp of theory and methodology of contemporary management with special emphasis on blending theory into practice at senior managerial level.
- To provide the participants with new perspectives on management concepts.
- To enhance the participant's ability in the application of theory into their corporate strategies.
- To inculcate the participants with knowledge of internationally applicable marketing and management principles.
Medium and Method of Instruction
The medium of instruction will be Putonghua for effective delivery of subject content. All the courses are designed to strike a balance between theory and practice. Apart from lectures, case studies, seminars, computer simulations, projects, participants must undertake two field trips in Hong Kong and Taiwan during the course of study.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must:
- have obtained a recognized Bachelor Degree or professional qualifications equivalent to a degree; AND
- normally, have at least 7 years of post-qualification business or relevant work experience, including 5 years in a managerial position; AND
- currently hold a responsible, senior management position.
