Opis programu

The mission of the Executive MBA is to enhance the managerial effectiveness of current professionals by communicating the knowledge and skills of a general MBA with a focus on global issues. This is accomplished through a carefully designed course of study, personal interaction, technology, and real-life experiences, within the context of a strong commitment to the educational themes and values of the College of Business Administration and Marquette University.

Marquette's Reputation for Quality Teaching

Marquette has a well-deserved reputation for having faculty who publish research, work in the real world, and care about their teaching and their students. Marquette is not a research mill, where graduate assistants teach and professors seldom show up in the classroom. Neither is it a sleepy teaching school where tired faculty recycle old lectures year after year. It is a Jesuit institution, requiring high standards in all areas. Those faculty teaching in the Executive MBA program are carefully selected to be the best from this strong group of faculty.

Focus on Skills, Not Just Knowledge

Your success as an executive depends on more than your knowledge of finance, accounting and marketing. It also depends on your skills at working within groups, making persuasive presentations, and diagnosing business problems. The innovative curriculum of Marquette's Executive MBA Program ensures that you have the theoretical and practical knowledge, but goes further, to be sure that you know how to use the knowledge to leverage your business in a dynamic business environment.

Team Interaction and Support

From the first day, the Marquette Executive MBA program emphasizes the importance and value of teamwork. Participants are formed into study teams of 4-5 members, selected to provide a wide range of talents in each team. Although participants are graded individually, it is expected that they will study and learn as a team.

In this way, you will not be learning on your own, but as part of a study team that provides support and assists in your education. In bringing a unique perspective to his or her assigned team, each participant gains an appreciation of the diversity of teams, and the value and difficulties of teamwork. You will find that the friendships and professional relationships from this study team last well beyond the length of the program.

Elective Topics Course

In the summer semester, participants are given the opportunity, voting as a class, to determine some of the topics they will be studying. Marquette faculty will present a series of potential topics that are covered in less than one semester. Topics may include (but are not limited to) Entrepreneurship, Database Marketing, The New Economy, Human Resources for the General Manager, Competitive Marketing Strategy, Managing Diversity, International Policy, Total Quality Management, Taxes and Strategic Decision-Making, and others. The class as a whole chooses which topics they feel are most valuable, and these make up the course. In this way, the Marquette Executive MBA is customized to your needs and interests.

Informacje o uczelni

The fundamental mission of the Marquette University College of Business Administration is to provide a quality education grounded in the Jesuit Catholic intellectual values that enable our students to function effectively and ethically in a diverse workplace and global economy. Our goal is to foster a community of scholars committed to improvement and collaboration, and to enhance interaction with business and service organizations. In doing this, we create a superior environment for learning and development of our students.

The College of Business Administration was established 93 years ago, and in that time, has graduated more than 17,000 students. The College was among the first 40 schools to earn accreditation by the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business-International (AACSB) in 1928. Other notable members of that first accreditation class are Harvard University, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania and University of Wisconsin.

The College continues its tradition of excellence today, serving over 1,400 undergraduates and over 700 master's degree candidates. The College has 58 tenure track faculty members serving in five departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing. Prominent alumni include a past chairman and CEO of Sears, a past president of Burlington Northern Railroad, a past chairman and CEO of Kimberly-Clark, the current chairman and CEO of Payless Shoe Stores and the current president of Manpower.

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) has ten options for majors: accounting, business economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, information technology, international business, marketing, real estate, and operations and supply chain management. Minors in business administration, human resource management, information technology, marketing, and operations and supply chain management are available for non-business students. The Department of Economics also offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The College began offering graduate degrees in 1953. The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree is offered on campus and to cohort groups in Waukesha and Kohler, Wisconsin. The College also offers the Executive M.B.A. and Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in Accounting, Applied Economics, Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource Management. In conjunction with other colleges, the College offers the M.S. in Engineering Management, the M.S. in Healthcare Technologies Management, the B.S.B.A./Juris Doctor, the M.B.A./J.D., the M.B.A./M.S. in Nursing, and the M.B.A./Master of Arts in Political Science degrees.

Research and outreach are supported through two centers: the Center for Global and Economic Affairs and the Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship. While their specific purposes are different, these units support faculty research, student scholarships, services to the business community, and host numerous public events.

The quality of the programs of the College and the quality of its students is seen in the success of College alumni over their careers and the way in which new graduates are welcomed into the business community. Such success does not occur by accident. It is the result of dedication and commitment to quality and mission. It is the result of the concerted efforts of an outstanding faculty and staff who are committed to students and the educational mission of the College and Marquette University.
