As part of the undergraduate bachelor's degree, learning outcomes are intended in the area of scientific, artistic and technical skills, the ability to think methodically, recognizing the cultural and social dimension of the profession, as well as general education and personality development.
The structure and teaching content of the degree in architecture are based on the general requirements associated with the profession of architect and create the prerequisite for the completion of the bachelor's degree to be admitted to the Chamber of Architects according to the admission requirements of the respective Chamber of Architects of the federal states as a freelance architect.
The teaching in the architecture course with a bachelor's degree is practice-oriented and designed to independently analyze and holistically solve planning and construction problems within the framework of given work structures. The training is intended to enable students to solve the basic tasks of an architect on a creative, technical, economic, ecological, cultural and social level.
The internship in the bachelor's program is integrated into the 6th semester. The prerequisite for starting the practical semester is the successful completion of the first part of the course.
The duration of the practical semester is 100 attendance days. During the practical semester, the student should experience the planning and implementation processes in the architectural office with their content and interactions. He should get to know the group of people involved in the planning and construction process and practice working in a team.
The practical semester can be completed in all architectural offices, offices of the authorities and suitable planning offices in the construction industry in which the training is guaranteed by a registered architect (according to § 3 of the Baden-Württemberg Architects Act or corresponding provisions of other countries). The internship can also be carried out abroad in appropriate institutions. A change of internship position is only possible in consultation with the head of the internship office.
The preparation for the internship takes place within the framework of an event with the head of the internship office. For follow-up, the practical activity is to be documented in a report that describes the duration of the training, its content and reference to practice, as well as the scope of the student's own work. This report must be confirmed by those responsible for the practical training and submitted to the internship office at the end of the 6th semester.
On the basis of the proof of activity and the practical report, a decision is made as to whether the student has successfully completed the practical semester. If the practical semester is not recognized as successfully completed, it can be repeated once. The head of the internship office is responsible for the decision.
Supervision is offered to accompany the practical semester. The head of the internship office decides on the respective structure. Supervision is tailored to the individual circumstances of the intern.
In written tests, the students should prove that they can solve tasks and work on topics in a limited amount of time and without tools using the usual methods of their subject. § 11 of the general part of the study and examination regulations for the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at Biberach University applies. Duration and modality of the examination will be announced in the course offer card.
Study papers contain a written and supplementary graphic processing of a task from the area of the courses using the relevant literature and other suitable aids. Students should prove that they are capable of scientifically working out a topic or subject-specific documentation of an object. The scope of services and submission modalities are announced in accordance with the module handbook in the course offer cards or at the beginning of the semester.
Through oral examinations, the students should demonstrate that they recognize the context of the examination area and are able to classify special questions in these contexts. § 10 of the general part of the study and examination regulations for the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at Biberach University applies. Duration and modality of the examination are announced in the course offer card.
Study achievements based on presentations, drawings, models and objects can be provided within exercises, impromptu, drafts or project work during the course or not during the course. Study achievements based on presentations, drawings, models and objects include an oral examination in the form of the university-public presentation of the work result. Part of the oral examination is the presentation of the theoretical, scientific and artistic basics in relation to the developed solution, the architectural and urban planning intentions and their materialization. If the study achievements are provided alongside the course, they can also include interim certificates (tours) in the form of university-public presentations of the interim results.
The processing time for the course work in the form of presentations, drawings, models and objects is usually 1 semester. The processing time and the scope of services are specified in the course offer cards. These are announced to the students at the beginning of the semester. The introductory event in the first week of the lecture period of the respective semester is considered the issue time of the topic for drafts and project work.
electives In the bachelor's program, a total of 6 elective subjects must be successfully completed in semesters 3 - 8. If necessary, the faculty council can decide to restrict the options for the required electives. Compulsory elective subjects can also be taken in other courses up to a maximum of 4 CP. Recognition does not depend on assignment to subject groups or subject areas. The examination board decides on assignment, recognition and creditable credit points; it can instruct the program director accordingly. Admission to an elective subject depends on the number of places available in the relevant subject. This also applies to subjects in other courses. There is no general entitlement to taking a specific compulsory elective subject.
drafts The regulation for the compulsory electives applies analogously to the options from the design offers in the bachelor’s degree with the restriction that design offers from other courses may not be taken.
impromptu designs Impromptu drafts are offered in semesters 3 - 8 of the bachelor's degree. A total of 4 impromptu courses must be successfully completed. The course offerings in the bachelor's and master's degree programs can be identical.
Study generals The Studium Generale is to be completed within the framework of the interdisciplinary offer of the University of Applied Sciences Biberach with 2 credit points. These credit points are not used to determine the average grade.
excursions The excursion(s) is/are offered in an excursion week in the semester. Participation in two elective excursions of the excursions offered in semesters 3 - 8 is obligatory. Once a year, a drawing excursion takes place as a compulsory excursion in the "Presentation and Design" modules. The grading is carried out as part of the "Presentation and Design" module, the weighting is determined by the examiner before the start of the excursion.
As part of the teaching, excursions can also take place in individual subjects or interdisciplinary during and outside of the lectures. They are considered mandatory excursions if the learning outcome and destination of the excursion, dates and times are part of the course. If you are prevented from attending for an important reason, you must provide an adequate study replacement benefit. The supervisor of the excursion carries out the assignment and examination of the replacement service.
The bachelor's thesis is a supervised examination that is intended to show that the candidate is able to work on a problem from the subject area of architecture within the bachelor's course using the required methods within the specified period of time.
The bachelor thesis is examined and evaluated by 2 examiners. The examiners are determined and announced by the examination board at the beginning of the lecture period in the first week of lectures in the 8th semester. If one of the examiners fails during the course of the procedure, the examination board will appoint a substitute examiner. The two examiners define the task and announce it at the beginning of the semester in the first or second week of the semester.
Admission requirement for the bachelor thesis is the successful completion of the practical semester as well as all coursework and examinations up to and including the 7th semester with the exception of the compulsory elective module. After the examiner has announced the topic, the candidate for the bachelor thesis must register it with the examination office within 2 weeks. The date of issue will be put on record.
The processing time for the bachelor thesis is a maximum of 4 months. The work is supervised in the form of colloquia, which take place at regular intervals. The submission date and the date for the oral examination are set by the examiners and announced when the topic is issued. At the request of the person to be examined, the processing time for the bachelor thesis can be extended by the examination board by the time of the inability to do so for reasons for which they are not responsible
The conclusion of the bachelor thesis consists of a planning work and a university-public colloquium on this work. The complete planning work consisting of the documents required in the task (usually plans and models) must be submitted on the day of submission. It is to be submitted at the same time as a printout in DIN A3 format and digitally.
The bachelor thesis is to be presented in the form of an oral examination lasting 40 minutes. Part of the examination is a 20-minute presentation on the content of the work. As a rule, the oral examination must take place no later than two weeks after submission of the work. The examiners announce the date for the oral examination when the work is issued. If the person to be examined misses the date of the oral examination, the bachelor's thesis will be graded "insufficient" (5.0), unless the person to be examined is not responsible for exceeding the deadline. The module examination grades are calculated from the arithmetic mean of all partial module examination grades assigned to the respective module, weighted with credit points.

The credit points for the internship, the Studium Generale and the excursions are not taken into account when forming and weighting the grades.
It is possible to complete coursework at a foreign university as part of a semester abroad. The semester abroad can be completed in the third, sixth or seventh semester.
