It focuses on understanding disease mechanisms at a molecular level, particularly for the most common and widespread diseases, with the aim of developing future methods for the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

As a student, the first part of the programme provides you with an advanced biomedical base that builds upon your bachelor studies. You then develop a personalised study profile through deeper exploration of one or more of Karolinska Institutet's research areas, by selecting elective courses, which are performed together with PhD students, and through the choice of research area(s) for your independent research projects.
