Description du programme

For almost two decades, the international business undergraduate program at the Darla Moore School of Business has been ranked #1 among American universities. The Moore School's Sonoco International Business Department as a whole has received ample recognition for their academic, research and field leadership.

Class Profile

Graduates are employed in companies involved in importing and exporting, multinational companies and foreign companies investing in the United States.

The Program

International Business is any business activity that occurs between people or organizations from different countries. This major leads to positions with an international context in areas such as finance, accounting, purchasing, marketing, production, logistics, and planning.

The mission of the Moore School's undergraduate international business major is to develop within students a transnational mindset: To encourage students to build on and challenge their existing knowledge, and to recognize and step beyond their own cultural perspective; to develop within students the ability to process new information, build new mental models and function effectively within different environmental contexts; to provide students with the analytic building blocks for understanding an ever-changing global market." - Dr. Nancy R. Buchan

This is accomplished through:

  • A comprehensive and competitive program led by our renowned international business faculty Completion of internationally relevant classes selected from the Carolina Core general education courses
  • Completion of leading-edge international business curriculum
  • Completion of a second business major
  • Completion of multiple advanced level language courses
  • Completion of at least one semester abroad through one of our partner exchanges at over 30 of the top business schools worldwide

Courses

The Sonoco Department of International Business at the Moore School has led the field of undergraduate education in creating progressive, thought-provoking, engaging courses that challenge students to think beyond their comfort zones. Each class exposes students to the vast complexities of our changing world and helps them develop the skills needed to make the best business decisions in environments of increasing globalization, great uncertainty and multiple points of view. To prepare them for courses in the IB major students are recommended to take a variety of internationally-related Arts & Science courses from the Carolina Core.

Double Major

In addition to receiving a strong international business education, students are also required to complete a second major at the Moore School. This additional concentration helps them develop specific functional skills that enhance their effectiveness as business professionals.

Foreign Language Study

Language skills not only catapult the efficiency, insight and networking skills of a global professional to a higher level, but such proficiency also allows an individual to gain deeper insight into the culture, values, and context of the people with whom they are working. In order to enhance this cross-cultural capability, IB students must complete several advanced-level courses in a foreign language (often resulting in a language minor). The languages available at USC include Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish.

Explore the World

The Moore School's strong international links have allowed us to develop partnerships with over 30 of the best business schools around the world. Every spring, juniors majoring in International Business have the opportunity to study at one these schools through our direct exchange programs. These partnerships allow students to build a network of global contacts with future business leaders around the world.

Find your place in an ever-changing world. Measure yourself in the classroom against the globe's best students. Explore global employment opportunities.

Creating Global Citizens

The most effective global managers can understand and navigate the complexities of international business while also building meaningful and responsible relationships with peoples of various nationalities, value-systems, administrative styles, and world experiences. Moore's unique expertise in offering students opportunities to develop their cultural and emotional intelligence both inside and outside of the classroom is one of the reasons it has led the undergraduate field for over a decade.

Global Internships

The International Business major at the Moore School opens up a world of opportunities for our students to intern around the country and the world. Our double-major system facilitates placement in a multitude of global sectors. The functional major equips them with the skills congruent with various industries and roles; the International Business major prepares them for immersion into the vast complexities of real-world business. Whether working while abroad or domestically in a multinational corporation, our students impress employers with their transnational capacities and business knowledge.

Informations sur l'Université

Founded in 1801, then-South Carolina College flourished pre-Civil War, overcame post-war struggles, was rechartered in 1906 as a university and transformed itself as a national institution in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The Palmetto State established South Carolina College — the precursor to the University of South Carolina — on Dec. 19, 1801, as part of an effort to unite South Carolinians in the wake of the American Revolution. South Carolina's leaders saw the new college as a way to promote "the good order and harmony" of the state.

The founding of South Carolina College was also a part of the Southern public college movement spurred by Thomas Jefferson. Within 20 years of one another, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia established state-supported colleges.
