The Counseling Psychology program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) promotes equity, pluralism, and social justice through student training and education, research, and practice.

The Counseling Psychology program at UMKC is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and based upon the scientist-practitioner training model, which broadly emphasizes training in research and practice. Designed to prepare students for academic, research, and practice careers at the doctoral level, graduates of our program work in various academic, teaching, and practice settings.

The vision and mission of the School of Education rest on over 65 years of partnerships with the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. These relationships have engaged school districts, charter schools, hospitals, mental health agencies, educational organizations, social service organizations, and related civic, cultural, and business organizations. Since its inception, the School of Education has been a shining example for advancing the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC), the only public urban-serving research university located in the heart of Kansas City. Earning the Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 2015, UMKC carries out this commitment every day in the School of Education.
