The Interuniversity Master's Degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology responds to the need to integrate into a body of knowledge the advances that are taking place in the field of nanoscience and the technological applications of nanosystems.
Although some concepts associated with nanoscience and nanotechnology are the object of attention in degree subjects in large areas such as Sciences and Health Sciences, there is no offer in the Galician University System with an overall vision of the body of knowledge of nanoscience or the technological processes of production, characterization and applications of nanosystems.
Nanoscience and nanotechnology focuses on the study and use of materials at the nanoscale and finds applications in all scientific fields. The most relevant advances of the 20th century and those expected in the 21st century are directly associated with a better knowledge of the processes that take place at the nanoscale and the possibility of modulating them and preparing new materials with properties and capacities that are unattainable in a different way. . However, the degree to which nanoscience and nanotechnology develop depends on the training of new professionals. As highlighted in recent analyses, there is a clear need to “literate” the sector by assuming its intrinsic trans-, inter- and multidisciplinary character.
The academic and scientific justification of the Master in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology lies in the need to train specialists in R+D+i in a highly multidisciplinary emerging field. Open to graduates of very diverse scientific and technical degrees, the Master provides the complementary knowledge necessary for graduates to join highly competitive work groups dedicated to research, continuing education and/or regulation in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
