If you are interested in a managerial role within a human resource environment, then this could be the course for you. The main aims of the course are to provide an emphasis on management within the human resource function, and prepare students for a wide variety of managerial careers within a human resource environment.
By the end of the course students will have developed analytical and evaluative skills and the ability to apply them in different business and management contexts. Students will also have developed knowledge and understanding of current HR theories and practice that will enhance their effectiveness as managers. Students will have the opportunity to explore current thinking and practice in the fields of employee development, employment law, employee relations and HRM.
The BSc (Hons) Human Resource Management with Development is delivered largely through combined lectures/seminars, workshops and tutorial sessions. The course is delivered on a full time basis over three days at the St Johns Centre.
The course is made up of six modules each module is worth 20 credits. The modules are as follows:
This module will give an organisation wide perspective through exploring strategy techniques and processes. By the end of the module students should be able to apply knowledge and understanding of strategy to a variety of real life businesses.
This module develops students understanding of how people learn, and how to facilitate learning and development within and beyond an organisation. By the end of the module, students should be able to devise realistic solutions and make informed judgements in relation to employee development issues.
On this module, students will be introduced to employee relations in Britain. Students will develop an understanding of some of the dynamic processes within the employment relationship. On completion of this module, students will be able to critically evaluate the employment relationship from a number of different perspectives.
The main aim of this module is to develop an understanding of those aspects of employment law which provide the legal framework for employment relationships. By completing this module, students will be able to effectively utilise legal principles in resolving employment problems.
This module aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to HRM at strategic and operational levels. At the end of this module, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts and theories in HRM and their practical implications for organisational effectiveness and competitiveness.
This module aims to develop students ability to implement, review and appraise business strategy and management decisions within the context of a dynamic, competitive market environment. The students' employability should be improved through an experience of real-time business decision-making in a simulated environment.
Each module is assessed by a maximum of two assessments. The assessments are submitted over four assessment periods throughout the year. A range of assessment methods is used, and examples of assessments are:
