Providing quality healthcare involves more than face-to-face patient care. Medical Billing and Coding employees handle the behind-the-scenes operations that are vital to the success of medical practices. Swedish Institute’s Medical Billing and Coding program provide students with an understanding of the foundation and skills required for entry-level employment in billing offices and medical administration.
Graduates of the Medical Billing and Coding program receive a certificate that the New York State Board of Regents authorized and are eligible to enrol in our Clinical and Medical Assistant degree program if they decide to further their education to include exposure to clinical care skills.
Our Medical Billing & Coding program is available in a 48 quarter-credit course sequence and can be completed in 9, 12, or 15 months. We offer both day and evening medical billing and coding classes to fit your busy schedule.
The Medical Billing and Coding program will prepare you to handle the responsibilities associated with medical insurance, coding, processing, and medical administrative procedures and meet the healthcare delivery system's regulatory requirements. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM manuals, V codes, E codes, and CPT manual and coding guidelines. We also provide you with course materials to prepare for the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification examination.
Medical Billers and Coders process billing and insurance claims and organize and manage health information data to ensure information maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper files and electronic systems. Upon successful completion of medical billing and coding training, you will be able to:
Utilize electronic healthcare records while maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient information;
Complete tasks such as office scheduling, medical billing, and records management;
Perform diagnostic and procedure coding, and demonstrate routine and specialized procedures used in billing and insurance processing in various healthcare settings.
