Professional profile of the Higher Degree in Dramatic Art in the specialty of Stage Direction and Dramaturgy

The professional profile defined in the specialty of Stage Direction and Dramaturgy corresponds to that of an artist who contemplates the process of theatrical creation as a whole and understands, uses, coordinates, and manages the various languages ​​that participate in the creation of a show. Develops a personal artistic project while, with the possible collaboration of artists and specialists, harmonizes and arranges the different elements of scenic creation in a given space and time, trying to elicit emotions, sensations, and ideas in the viewer through the word and the image. This professional will be qualified for the exercise of research and teaching.

ESAD Valencia is the only Higher Center for Dramatic Art studies in our Community.

Its aim is to provide technical and artistic training to future theater professionals.

At present, at ESAD Valencia you can study Dramatic Art in the specialties of Interpretation, Stage Direction, and Dramaturgy and from the 2015-16 academic year Scenography. Higher Studies in Dramatic Art are equivalent to those of a University Degree.

As a public center, the ESADV is open to all those interested in receiving its training, regardless of their social or economic level.

The special characteristics of these teachings determine a teacher-student ratio of twelve to one in the practical subjects and of twenty-four to one in the theoretical-practical ones. This very restricted number, necessary for the correct pedagogical development, implies a selection of the students through the entrance exams.

The Faculty of Professors is made up of teachers specialized in the different disciplines and integrated through their theoretical or creative work in the professional theater field.

The ESADV is also a place for our students to meet and connect with theater life through various activities such as conferences, round tables, meetings with professionals, courses, and performances.
