Confronting the environmental issues faced by the Earth and mankind in a wide range of fields.
While enhancing accurate comprehension and awareness of various environmental issues, this department engages in practical education centered on “eco-chemistry”, “biochemistry”, and “energy machines” related to the development of environmentally-friendly chemicals, and the search for effective energy utilization technology and biomaterials. By doing so, it seeks to develop human resources who have a high level of environmental awareness and are able to actively participate in these broad fields.
This university was established early in Japan’s post-war period of high economic growth, with the goal of taking a leading role to develop human resources with proficiency and practical knowledge in highly advanced electronics fields such as electronics engineering and communication engineering. This year marks the 60-year anniversary of our institution, which began with just a single faculty, the Faculty of Engineering, at the time of its establishment. It has now grown into a comprehensive university of technology composed of four faculties (Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Medical Science and Health-Promotion, and Faculty of Information Science and Arts) with 14 departments, and three graduate schools with three divisions. With over 54,000 graduates so far, we have played an important social role as an institution of higher education. In April of last year, the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering changed its name to the Faculty of Medical Science and Health-Promotion, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering changed its name to the Department of Medical Science. We are offering studies that respond to the fields of AI and IoT as they evolve at an unprecedented pace in the areas of medicine and sports, and are developing human resources who will be able to answer the expectations and demands for medical care and health in the future. Also, in our Neyagawa Campus renovation project which is currently underway, the second phase of the new OECU Innovation Square building is scheduled to be completed next spring. It will create open spaces by providing passages where people can gather, and will serve as a new type of research office allowing free interaction that crosses the boundaries of faculties and departments. It will also energize communication on campus, create learning environments that can lead to new growth, and promote the development of students with outstanding human qualities and technical abilities.
