The Progressive Welding Technology program at Mitchell Technical College is industry-driven to educate students who want to pursue a career in the manufacturing industry. The program provides the proper skills for graduates to excel in welding, machining, and lean manufacturing techniques.

The Mitchell Technical College's Natural Gas Technology program will teach you the skills needed to install, maintain, operate and repair gas distribution systems and equipment for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Chartered in 1966, Mitchell Technical College opened in September 1968 as part of a statewide system of four technical colleges. More than 19,000 students have graduated since that time. The College operates under a dual governance system. Policy, hiring, local fees, and operations are decided by the Board of Education of the Mitchell School District 17-2. Tuition and state fees, program approval, and bonding issues are decided by the South Dakota Board of Technical Education. Mitchell Tech enjoys a close relationship with Mitchell and regional communities. There are established advisory committees of community and regional representatives who provide program input and support.
