Description du programme

As a medical and molecular biologist, you have the power to impact lives by conducting laboratory tests and experiments. This program allows you to gain a foundation in key laboratory knowledge and skills combined with practical real-world experience.

In this full-time, four-year program, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside professional experts in modern laboratories to perfect your laboratory skills and experimental techniques while progressively building an academic foundation in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, and more. And you’ll graduate with the experience required to begin your career with confidence or to advance your education at the graduate level.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Medical and Molecular Biology program is to produce graduates who have the knowledge and skills for entry into careers in biotechnology, research and development, forensic science, clinical laboratory sciences, and graduate studies in biology, as well as entry into medical school and other health profession programs. The curriculum design provides a broad foundation in the sciences, a range of liberal arts courses, and a concentration in medical and molecular biology. Courses in this program provide foundational knowledge in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics. Elective courses in biology allow students the freedom to tailor their program to their career interests, focusing either on the molecular/cellular aspects of the medical/physiological aspects of biology.

Program Goals

The following program goals were established in 2010:

  • Provide a new degree program for students who are interested in developing skills in molecular biotechnology.
  • Provide undergraduate education that would lead to careers in clinical laboratory sciences, biotechnology, forensic science, public health, graduate and professional education.
  • Demonstrate the value of integrating communication skills; experimental design and analysis; and scientific literacy to explore relationships of science to medicine and to problems of social, cultural, and intellectual concern.
  • Provide an alternative major for students who do not continue in the Premedical and Health Studies Program.
  • Encourage purposeful and coordinated selection of elective credits.
