The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares nurse practitioners who can meet the increasingly complex health needs of diverse urban populations by providing evidence-based, advanced nursing services in a wide variety of settings. The changing demands of the nation's complex health care environment require that nurses serving in specialty positions have the highest level of scientific knowledge and practice expertise possible. The DNP curriculum builds on traditional clinical master's programs by providing additional education in evidence-based practice, quality improvement, systems leadership, and other content areas that will improve clinical outcomes in complex systems.
The DNP program currently offers three specialization tracks, including Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track for currently certified FNPs. The program is open to nurses with a baccalaureate or master's degree in nursing and may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. The program requires the completion of 48-90 credits and 1000 supervised clinical hours.
The mission of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing is to provide quality nursing education to promote health and provide care in culturally diverse urban and global communities through research, scholarship, and service.
The flagship nursing school of The City University of New York prepares nurses for 21st Century practice in complex urban environments with diverse populations. Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing (HBSON) leverages its vast relationships across New York City to provide our students with clinical experiences that reflect the complexity of the healthcare challenges faced by our city’s residents. HOBSON works tirelessly to identify clinical placements for our students in ambulatory, community, and hospital-affiliated settings.
