Biology is the study of life. To understand biology, students need to have a working knowledge of all sciences.
Students earning a B.S. in Biology have the flexibility to select courses in one of the following areas:
Biology majors are not required to take a minor.
Some Fairmont State students choose the Biology program as their undergraduate major before going on to graduate school for dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine.
The mission of the Biology Program is to introduce students to the dynamic field of biology and prepare them for the career path of their choice. Students in the program acquire critical thinking, technical skills, and the ability to apply and share their knowledge of the biological sciences.
Fairmont State University is rooted in a rich history while leading innovation into a global future. We are a comprehensive institution of higher learning set within a beautiful and hilltop landscape in America’s Appalachian Mountain region. As a Fairmont State Falcon, you will build relationships and connections that will last a lifetime, while engaging in hands-on learning with teacher-mentors who are not only experts in their fields, but also love to teach.
At Fairmont State, you’ll never take a class from a graduate assistant, and we have zero on-campus classes with more than 100 students. We’re the perfect size: Our cozy, safe campus and small class sizes (our average student-faculty ratio is 15:1) offer you incredible opportunities to practice classroom learning in real-world settings, but we’re also large enough to offer a wide range of program offerings and specializations.
Fairmont State University has unique and premier programs in Engineering Technologies, Occupational Safety, Architecture, National Security & Intelligence, Community Health Promotion, Aviation, Nursing, Education, Computer Science, and Information Systems Management (programs with a * are the only ones of their kind in the state). Alongside these special programs are dozens of other degrees in liberal arts, psychology, business, STEM fields, healthcare, and many more! We offer 40+ degree programs, and over 100 programs of study, so you’re sure to find a major that not only fulfills your interests, but also leads to a rewarding, in-demand career.
