Description du programme

Welcome to the X Promotion

The Master of Narrative The art and the trade unite - through the experience of Escuela de Escritores - the tradition of the creative writing chairs of the Anglo-Saxon universities with the didactic focuses of the European member schools and universities, like us, of the European Association of Creative Writing Programs (EACWP) . The objective of the master's degree is to teach the craft of writing and to work on the three pillars that make this craft an art : technique, creativity and sensitivity.

Since its creation in October 2008, more than 120 students have participated in this pioneering teaching project in Spain.

A writer is writing, yes, but if he really wants to be an artist of his time, he must also know the literary tradition that precedes him and adds to it, the tools of textual analysis, the artistic and thought movements in his dialogue with the writing, or what of the future of the narrative we envisioned at the beginning of the 21st century.

And, of course, a writer must establish a channel of communication with himself, with his look and his truth, with the sources - always very personal - of his inspiration and creativity, with what he, and only he, has to tell.

Technique and sensitivity, art and craft; an ambitious goal for which we have designed a learning that will have as guides the most prestigious writing teachers, with years of experience behind them, who share a cloister with artists, writers, editors, dramatists and experts in philosophy, history, literature, psychology and creativity. Likewise, we have the participation of schools such as the Escola d'Escriptura del Ateneu from Barcelona or of publishers so attentive to the present of Spanish literature as Pages of Foam, Page Break, Tropo, Talentura or Gens.

The seminars and periodic meetings with writers and their reflections on the literature that comes - have already passed our classrooms Alessandro Baricco, Luis Landero, Rosa Montero, Enrique Vila-Matas, Juan José Millás, Ray Loriga, Luis García-Montero, Bernardo Atxaga , Almudena Grandes, Andrés Neuman, Luis Goytisolo and Agustín Fernández Mallo, among others- will complete a training aimed at facilitating the student's technical knowledge of the trade and enhancing the creativity and individuality of the artist. Draft

The projects that, in the opinion of the responsible teachers, have higher literary quality will be valued by the reading committees of the publishers with which Escuela de Escritores maintains collaboration agreements; this reading does not necessarily imply a commitment to publish.

These projects will be carried out during the second year of the master's degree , where a large part of the work will be done by each of the students writing a narrative project in which they can practice and settle the resources and skills learned and give rein to their imagination and creativity. This project will have a minimum length of 80 pages and may be a novel (short) or a collection of stories. To conclude this project will be indispensable to approve the Master and the qualification of the same one will be key at the time of establishing the final note of the student.

To carry out this project, students will have a subject, Narrative Projects I and Narrative Projects II, dedicated to guide them in the writing process, as well as tutorials (two per semester) in which they will analyze personally with the teacher the situation of each project.

In addition to these teaching hours, we estimate that writing the project will involve about 300 hours of work to the student.

And after the Master

Finishing the Master is not the end of a path, but the beginning.

Some students from previous promotions have been granted scholarships for courses, stays or internships by publishers or institutions such as the EU or the Biennial of Young Artists of the Mediterranean. A good number of them are dedicated to the teaching of Creative Writing. Many of them are professors in Escuela de Escritores , others are professors in various centers in Spain and Latin America. Media and communication departments, advertising agencies, publishers, the profile of our students is increasingly demanded.

But the main objective of the Master is to train writers and that is why we are especially proud of all the students who have published one or several books , in many cases the Master's thesis project itself. And, of course, that they obtain or be finalists of prestigious literary awards such as the Felipe Trigo de Narrativa 2016, the Setenil de Relato Award, the Nadal Prize or the Kutxa-City of Irún de Novela.

Methodology

The Narrative Writing Master is designed to develop the technical skills, creativity and sensitivity of the writer.

To achieve this we propose a theoretical-practical approach articulated in three types of classes: theoretical sessions of an hour and a half in duration, practical sessions of between two and two and a half hours, and seminars of the Creative Classroom, lasting four hours. In addition, in the second year, the student will have two hours of personal tutorials with the professor of Narrative Projects per semester.

Although a good part of the work will be developed in the classes, the students will have to perform writing exercises at home, as well as the readings and the works commissioned by the professors of the different subjects. Conferences and meetings with writers may also be held, if deemed necessary, outside of class hours, although attendance to them will be voluntary.

  • To obtain the master's degree, the following requirements must be met:
  • Attend at least 70% of the sessions of each subject and participate in them actively.
  • Submit the papers or pass the proficiency tests requested by each teacher at the end of the respective subjects.
  • Approve the end of master project. The evaluation of this project by the faculty will grant a grade from 1 to 10. This grade, together with the overall score in the rest of the subjects, will determine the final grade with which the student will receive the degree. These notes may be: Suspended, Approved, Notable, Outstanding and Outstanding cum laude.

Informations sur l'Université

The story is written by you

Welcome to the largest school of Creative Writing in Spanish in the world, welcome to the Escuela de Escritores :

We all have a story to tell and we can all find the best way to do it. Because, yes, you can learn to write. Writing is a trade and, as in any trade, the first step is to know and master the techniques that will allow you to exercise it masterfully. Teaching this trade is the raison d'être of the Escuela de Escritores . Learning it is not only within reach of geniuses touched by the divine finger or blessed with the gene of writing: the thousands of people who have passed through our classroom and virtual classroom discover it every day for fifteen years.

When an occupation is exercised with mastery, it becomes art and when we talk about art we also talk about those intangibles that are talent or inspiration. Talent is not learned, but you have little or much, you can develop it in the right environment. Writers have always needed to surround themselves with other writers in search of guidance or advice (remember literary gatherings or the epistolary relationship among many of them). Escuela de Escritores is a meeting place for Spanish-speaking writers from around the world, a community where you can share the experience of writing with your classmates, guided by many of the best teachers of Creative Writing in Spanish.

Because to begin to write is only the beginning. There are many writers who, when asked why they write, what they get at so many hours before the blank page, respond with two words: more life. A writer lives many lives: his and all that he discovers within himself. Something breaks when we write: that layer of fear that separates us from the world, from true emotions. On the other side we are born fragile words, that a writer learns to care until they meet in phrases that, with patience and a lot of trade, end up being stories, novels, scripts, poems, art, life.

If your desire is to train you as a writer, get started in the secrets and techniques of this difficult and exciting job, we will not disappoint you. We can not promise success, or thousands of readers, or the discomforts of fame, that literary glory that some confuse with being a writer; but we can guarantee a solid, complete and well-structured training that will allow you to learn all the techniques and resources of the trade: a training on which you can build your voice and your speech, that life that beats in your interior and that only you you can count.
