The Criminal Justice Technology curriculum is designed to provide knowledge of criminal justice systems and operations. The study will focus on local, state, and federal law enforcement, judicial processes, corrections, and security services. The criminal justice system’s role within society will be explored.
Emphasis is on criminal justice systems, criminology, juvenile justice, criminal and constitutional law, investigative principles, ethics, and community relations. Additional study may include issues and concepts of government, counselling, communications, computers, and technology.
Employment opportunities exist in various local, state, and federal law enforcement, corrections, and security fields. Examples include police officer, deputy sheriff, county detention officer, state trooper, intensive probation/parole surveillance officer, correctional officer, and loss prevention specialist.
Carteret Community College offers opportunities for lifelong learning through high quality traditional and distance learning teaching, training, support, and enrichment with the intended purpose of improving the quality of life for all citizens of Carteret County and eastern North Carolina.
Responsive to local business and industry needs, the College offers occupational training programs, including those designed to support tourism, marine occupations, and the legal and business professions.
The college contributes to local citizens' personal, social, and cultural growth and provides interested students with courses, which transfer to senior institutions.
The College is committed both to the open-door philosophy and student learning and success. It recognizes that some individuals need to enhance their academic skills before they can achieve their educational goals. Therefore, the College maintains a mandatory academic skills testing and placement system, allowing students to gain effective academic skills before beginning their chosen programs of study.
