Maestría en Ciencias de la Enfermería

The master’s degree program in nursing prepares outstanding and compassionate nurse practitioners to care for individuals, families, communities, and populations in a variety of settings. The program provides graduate preparation in three nurse practitioner specialties: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Graduates of the master’s degree program are eligible to sit for the certification examinations in their specialty offered by national certification organizations (e.g., AANP and ANCC).

The Master of Science program is designed to accommodate full-time (≥ 9 credits) and part-time (≤ 8 credits) graduate study. Formal admissions and matriculation begin in the Fall semester each year. However, students are welcome to explore graduate course offerings and/or begin work on their degree earlier by enrolling in courses as non-matriculated students in spring or fall semesters prior to formal matriculation.

Half a million nurses are expected to retire in the next decade, and the nation’s evolving demands require more nurses with higher-level education to care for the growing patient population. The College of Nursing is perfectly positioned to deliver on both fronts. We offer bachelor’s degrees, nurse practitioner master’s degrees, doctoral degrees including the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and the only nursing PhD program in Rhode Island.
