Discoveries and technological developments in such diverse fields as molecular biology, biotechnology, biomaterials, tissue engineering, microbiology, epidemiology, imaging and computer science are rapidly changing how we diagnose and treat patients. To deal with the changes and exploit and implement new possibilities, we need to educate clinically aware researchers, and research trained clinical specialists.

The PhD program at the Faculty of Dentistry offers a unique research environment that combines technology and medical and life sciences for ambitious students to achieve something significant in clinical and clinically related topics and discover and learn about new disciplines and advance career possibilities.

The Faculty trains dentists and dental hygienists. The formal organisation of dental education in Norway was established in 1909. In 1959 the dental college was integrated with the University of Oslo and became the Faculty of Dentistry. Today the Faculty is a modern institution with research-based training in all subjects and is led by staff with professorial qualifications and PhD degrees.
