Puzzling behind the computer with data about plants, humans and animals. That is the core of bioinformatics. As a bioinformatician you help with research into genetic material (DNA), the cause of hereditary diseases, finding new medicines or improving food. Do you find biology interesting and do you find it challenging to write computer programs yourself? Find out if Bioinformatics is the training for you.
Biological research is increasingly carried out automatically. Every day thousands of measurements come from the laboratory. Bioinformaticians are badly needed to understand all those measurements and extract useful information from them. For example, the entire genome is increasingly studied in the investigation and diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and chronic inflammation. But also in forensic labs, in horticulture or in the food industry, they need bioinformatics scientists to solve biological questions with the computer.
