Descripción del programa

Biochemistry is the powerful force created when biology and chemistry merge. So powerful that it’s led to improved medicines, innovative methods of controlling diabetes, and new ways of looking at how chemical factors affect our overall health.

The biochemistry major accredited by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) is an excellent option for those students who wish to have a strong foundation in an interdisciplinary science, especially with the modern scientific community becoming less compartmentalized. It provides a strong background in both chemistry and biology with additional support from both physics and mathematics. The major is an ideal choice for those students interested in graduate education in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or pharmacy; a career in medicine, medical research or allied health areas; or eventual employment in the areas of forensic science, food science, agricultural research or the biotechnology industry. Today many new jobs are being created in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries that demand the breadth and flexibility available with a biochemistry background. A well-prepared biochemist is also more informed about the bioethical issues challenging the scientific community.

Program Highlights

Immerse yourself in the study of chemistry and biology, two natural sciences crucial for studying new medicines, innovative ways of looking at human health, and improved methods of controlling diseases. Accredited by ASBMB, the biochemistry major offers hands-on learning in a modern and cutting-edge facility where science and technology merge.
