Master's course

We aim to train social workers as highly skilled professionals. In addition, we aim to improve the skills of operators and managers in social welfare facilities and institutions.

doctoral course

We aim to train social welfare researchers and educators. In addition, we are cultivating experts in the operation and management of facilities and institutions who are well versed in social welfare practical theories and legal policies.

Features Three research areas

In the master's program, students select one of the following three areas of research: (1) social welfare systems and policies, (2) social welfare methods and techniques, and (3) Christian social welfare. acquire the necessary knowledge and skills.

To all of you who are struggling to support various users on a daily basis in the field of welfare, health and medical care, why not stop and dig deeper into social welfare and social work? Why don't you enroll in graduate school, hone your skills and perspective as a social worker, and put together the questions you feel in your daily practice in the form of research?

In the Lutheran master's course (master's level), students go to school on Thursday and Friday nights and on Saturdays to complete their master's thesis (specific research topic). We also offer a number of certification trainings for certified social workers.

In the doctoral course at Lutheran, in addition to one-on-one guidance from the chief advisor, students participate in specialized seminars for the doctoral course held on Saturday afternoons, submit and give presentations according to the course system, and write their doctoral dissertation. increase.

In both master's and doctoral programs, students have written dissertations in a wide range of areas (grief, nursing care, care management, staff training systems, etc.), with social work or social welfare systems and policies as the main theme. You can spend a stimulating graduate student life while discussing with classmates who are also working adults in the field. After completing the course, students are confidently working as educators/researchers, business managers of organizations, or highly specialized social workers. Would you like to join us?

Easy-to-learn environment for adults

The university has laboratories, parking lots, and personal lockers for graduate students, creating an environment that makes it easy to learn while working.

All classes are held from 6:30 pm to 9:40 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and from 8:50 am to 6:00 pm on Saturdays. can be done.

In addition, if you use the long-term course system, you can take your time and work on your coursework, master's thesis, and specific research topic at your own pace.

In fiscal 2015, five graduates completed the course while continuing to work in welfare-related fields, and many graduates continue to work in the field (social workers in welfare and medical settings, etc.). In addition, there are many graduates who go on to the doctoral program afterward.

About certified social workers

Many of the courses in the Graduate School of Social Welfare atルーテル学院大学are certified as certified social worker training.

Those who are certified social workers and meet the prescribed requirements will be deemed to have completed the training necessary to obtain a "certified social worker" status by taking classes at our graduate school.

About the Graduate Program "Terminal Care and Grief Work Training Program (CTTP)"

The Clinical Thanatology Training Program (CTTP) was newly established in 2012 as a program commemorating the 10th anniversary of the opening of the master's program in the Graduate School of Integrated Human Sciences. This is a new training program that comprehensively develops exercises and practices for research in terminal care and grief work at the graduate level.

This program is intended for graduate students who aim to engage in the practice of clinical thanatology after completing graduate school, and for those who have completed a master's course at this university or other universities (research student registration is required). It aims to provide practice, training and practice in clinical thanatology.

Christian Instruction

Christianity--the founding spirit that supports Japan Lutheran College Christianity, the founding spirit that is JLC's legacy, does not only appear in lectures but is part of all campus life. Much can be learned and gained from the daily interactions with faculty, staff, and other students. Japan Lutheran College has a Campus Christian Center, where the Chaplain (pastor) provides leadership for all the worship-related activities and programs on campus. The Chaplain is served by a Chaplain's Assistant, together with other helpers and student volunteers who make up the Worship Committee. There are chapel services every class day. While worship is not compulsory, it does provide a place where faculty and students can come together as one, heard the Word of God, and join in prayer. Through the messages presented here, there are opportunities to see another side of those people that we interact with daily. The basis of our "Lutheraness"--as it were-of praising God and fostering a love for our fellow humans is found in this Christian instruction. It is our hope that the years of study at JLC will not only result in knowledge and skills but will be a time that deeply affects each of us as individuals.
