Artificial intelligence is a new technological science that studies and develops theories, methods, technologies and application systems used to simulate, extend and expand human intelligence. Artificial intelligence technology has already involved industry, agriculture, commerce, finance, national defense, education, culture and health, etc. Artificial intelligence is an important driving force and strategic technology for the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. The major of artificial intelligence is to study the use of computers to simulate certain human thinking processes and intelligent behaviors (such as learning, reasoning, thinking, planning, etc.). It mainly includes the principles of computer realization of intelligence and the manufacture of computers similar to human brain intelligence. This major involves computer science and technology, information theory, cybernetics, automation, bionics, psychology, mathematical logic, linguistics, medicine, and philosophy. Artificial Intelligence in our school is a new type of applied undergraduate major established by integrating the talents, platforms, academics, and technology accumulation of our school in the past 19 years in artificial intelligence. It is the first batch of artificial intelligence majors approved by the Ministry of Education.

Training objectives:

This major cultivates high ideological and ethical accomplishments, scientific and cultural qualities and innovative spirit, and systematically masters the basic theories of artificial intelligence, machine learning, machine perception and pattern recognition, knowledge representation and processing, natural language understanding, intelligent systems and applications, and cognition Advanced engineering and technical personnel who can engage in scientific research, application development, service, management and comprehensive application in the field of artificial intelligence and related industries with technologies and applications in neuroscience.

Hunan Institute of Engineering, built by the Hunan Government, is located in Xiangtan, Hunan Province, the hometown of the great man Mao Zedong. It is a pilot university for postgraduate education of the Ministry of Education's "National Talent Training Program for Special Needs", and the first batch of the "Excellent Engineers Education and Training Program" and the "New Engineering Research and Practice Project" implemented by the Ministry of Education. It is authorized to confer Master's degrees in Hunan Province and selected into the “2011 Plan” universities. HIE follows the “Double First-Class” initiative and becomes the model to build a high-level application-oriented university with comprehensive characteristics. In 2020, with the approval of the Hunan Education Department, it was authorized to be among the first-batch universities for undergraduate admission in Hunan Province.

HIE meets the development needs of the regional economy and the electronics, machinery, and textile industries. With the goal of cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents, HIE offers professional undergraduate programs in electronics, machinery, textile, chemistry, and management, covering engineering, management, arts, science, economics, and other disciplines. It now has 19 schools (departments, centers), 56 undergraduate programs, and 2 engineering master’s degree authorization programs. HIE has 8 application-oriented discipline construction programs following the "Double First-Class" initiative at the provincial level; 8 subjects for implementing the "Excellence Program" of the Ministry of Education; 8 national and provincial characteristic subjects; 6 subjects as the national comprehensive subject reform pilots; 22 first-level disciplines at the provincial level. The following two subjects have passed engineering education certification evaluation: Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation; Electrical Engineering and Automation. HIE has 4 national practical education platforms; 1 national scientific innovation team for college students; 23 provincial platforms for innovation and entrepreneurship; 25 province-level excellent practice bases and demonstration bases to train talents for industry-university cooperation; 122 industry-university cooperative education projects supported by the Ministry of Education; 11 province-level high-quality courses, 19 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses and 9 provincial-level virtual simulation experiment centers and demonstration laboratories (centers). The metalworking practice base, designated by the Ministry of Education, is a training and examination center for metalworking teaching instructors in colleges and universities.
