China pharmaceutical university has one of the earliest doctoral programs of pharmacology in China. The post-graduates program for master degree started as early as 1982, and that for Ph.D. degree started in 1990.

Founded in 1986, Pharmacological College is one of the oldest schools of the university. Formerly the Department of Chinese Medicine, it was renamed as the Department of Pharmaceutics in 1999 and then again renamed as School of Pharmaceutics in 2006. The school offered the vocational specialty of Chinese medicine in 1986, the Chinese medicine undergraduate specialty in 1994, the pharmaceutical preparation specialty in 2000, the pharmaceutics specialty in 2001, the food science and engineering specialty in 2003, and the medical herb cultivation and certification specialty.
