Gaia University Master’s degree programs are designed for those making the transition from functioning at an operational level to becoming strategic. Prior hands-on life and field experience is a requirement for admission to a Master’s program. At the Master’s level, transition and leadership are important threads. MS degree recipients in physics are generally employed by industrial or government laboratories as either physicists or engineers. Some are hired as teachers by high schools and by two-year colleges. Holders of the PhD in physics will generally be hired as research and development physicists by industrial or government laboratories and as professors in universities (though this may require additional postdoctoral research experience). All of our recent graduates have found employment commensurate with their career goals and abilities.

Graduate programs in Earth Sciences (EARTH) are focused primarily on learning advanced methodologies and critical thinking by conducting focused research centered around one of three disciplinary cores that foster research reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the field (geophysics and tectonics, marine and environmental geology, and volcanology/geochemistry/petrology). In addition, students can pursue studies in planetary science and mineral physics with advisors in the Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP)

We incorporate in our educational programme observations and data from the world’s foremost ground- and space-based telescopes as well as theoretical, computational and astrochemical modelling, large-scale simulations, and laboratory experiments that mimic conditions in space.

This structured two-year programme offers you the opportunity to learn about the universe and apply your knowledge of physics in a vibrant and fast-developing area of science. The first semester is spent on core astronomy courses, including stellar structure and evolution and galactic dynamics. In the second semester, you will begin work on a 60 ECTS degree project under the supervision of internationally well-regarded professors, and this project continues over three semesters. You will also take four more courses broadening your knowledge of the most exciting areas of modern astrophysics, such as exoplanets and the early universe.
