Graceland’s Agricultural Business degree is designed to produce graduates who can quickly begin their careers as global agricultural professionals. Graceland offers unique opportunities for students to put their hearts for agriculture into professional careers that are successful and meaningful. A major goal of the agricultural business program is that 100% of students will be employed as global professionals with meaningful careers or pursue an advanced degree in the first year after graduation. Graceland’s rural location in southern Iowa puts students in the heart of the agricultural community, providing access to local resources for learning experiences, in addition to other academic and leadership opportunities.

The Program in Environmental Studies, leading to either a BA or a minor, teaches students to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the relationship between humans and the environment. It requires an understanding of the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The major has 5 elective tracks from which to choose: 1) Climate Change, 2) Conservation Biology, 3) Environmental Economics, 4) Environmental Humanities, or 5) Water Resources. A major could also propose a self-designed track.

The Natural Resources emphasis area is multidisciplinary, including coursework from biology, geology, natural resources, and environmental science. Courses in writing, ethics, and special topic integrative seminars broaden students' knowledge base and hone their communication and critical thinking skills.

Our B.A. in Environmental Studies emphasizes the political, economic, and sociological aspects of environmental issues. This is an integrated studies degree with a strong international dimension, including intermediate competency in foreign language. Because it draws more extensively from economics, sociology, political science, and global languages and cultures, the B.A. degree is more appropriate for students intending graduate study and careers in sustainability, environmental planning, international development, environmental communications, and environmental education.

This program examines the scientific, cultural, economic, moral, political and social dimensions of environmental issues. You will have the opportunity to choose one of three areas of concentration: Environment and Peoples of Canada; Politics, Society, and the Global Environment; and Food and Society.
