Program Description

Are you active in various art scenes and other communities that pursue creative endeavors? At a local art museum, do you enjoy engaging with others in open discussions critiquing visual art and learning about its methodology, origins and meanings? If so, then you may be interested in studying Art History and Criticism.

UTSA’s Art History and Criticism degree offers an extensive view of art historical studies in the context of a liberal arts education. The coursework includes surveying art from prehistoric times to the discovery of the Americas, along with studying contemporary and cultural art. Complemented with an art gallery and museum internship, this program emphasizes critical thinking, research and writing skills in order to prepare you for opportunities in careers requiring a liberal arts background, or pursuing graduate studies in art history or other related fields.
