Utica College’s online BS in Economic Crime Investigation – with specializations in Financial Investigation and in Fraud Prevention and Detection, teaches skills and techniques for gathering, analyzing, and preserving evidence of economic and financial misdeeds. Coursework covers areas such as forensic accounting, data analysis, damage assessment, investigation and interviewing techniques, and how to recognize suspicious behavior patterns.

The online BS in Economic Crime Investigation offers two concentrations that allow students to dig deeper into specific areas of economic crime investigation with more in-depth coursework in subjects such as accounting, corporate finance, payment systems, privacy, and new technologies that detect and prevent fraud.

  • Financial Investigation concentration teaches students forensic accounting skills to pinpoint and document potential financial misdeeds. Coursework in the concentration includes accounting concepts and procedures, data analysis, methods of detecting fraud and tracing illicit funds, the steps of due diligence, and damage assessment.
  • Fraud Prevention and Detection concentration teaches students to identify potential deception as well as areas of potential vulnerability to fraud and economic crime. Topics include investigation and interviewing techniques, the use of technology in detecting and preventing crime, government and legal regulations, and how to recognize suspicious behavior patterns.

Admission Requirements

The online BS in Economic Crime Investigation degree is a completer program, which means that students must have an Associate's degree or at least 57 credits from a 4-year institution prior to enrolling in the program.

  • $40 application fee (or waiver request) for Undergraduate Programs
  • Official transcripts of all previous academic works in English and an explanation of the grading system
  • English language proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS if English is not your first language -- UC requires a TOEFL score of 550 written, 213 computer-based, 79 internet-based and IELTS of 6.0
  • An official course by course International Credential Evaluation of transcripts showing equivalency to a US Associate's degree.

Curriculum

The online BS in Economic Crime Investigation degree requires completion of at least 30 credit hours depending on transfer credits. This program is fully online and is intended to be completed from your existing location. No campus visits are required and the program does not support visa applications.

Utica College has met the increased demands of this new designation category with its Bachelor's and Master's in Cybersecurity programs. The NSA designation covers the academic years 2014 through 2019.

    The college has also earned designation as a National Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence (CDFAE) by the Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3). The CDFAE program offers designations to accredited academic programs that confer a digital forensics-related degree. To receive CDFAE designation, an institution's accredited academic program must map courses against a common core curriculum and must have in-course peer reviews of curriculum and practicum within a three year period. Our suite of programs in Economic Crime and Justice Studies is formally recognized by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) and we are an academic member of the organization.
