Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpretation

As a graduate in Translation and Interpretation, you will acquire the following knowledge:

• Mastery of translation and interpretation techniques and strategies
• Mastery of language A (Spanish), language B (English), and language C (German/Arabic) (in all types of discourse and written and oral registers) and their respective cultures to translate and interpret (both consecutively and simultaneously).
• Effective application of link interpretation techniques and note-taking, as well as performing sight translation tasks.
• Mastery of computer tools applied to translation/interpretation and localization, and the ability to perform computer-assisted translations.
• Mastery of applied documentation techniques for translation, as well as the terminology and lexicography necessary to carry out specialized translations.
• Knowledge of the job market for translation and interpretation, and mastery of the professional skills necessary to practice the profession both independently and as an employee, following quality standards.
• Design and organization of translation and interpretation projects and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, in national and international contexts.
• Ethical commitment in the practice of the profession, and development of critical reasoning, recognizing the value of diversity and interculturality for translation and interpretation.
• Application of editing, layout, and textual revision techniques.

Access Access to official undergraduate education will require possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and passing the test referred to in Article 42 of Organic Law 6/2001 on Universities, amended by Law 4/2007 of April 12, without prejudice to other access mechanisms provided by current regulations.

The number of places offered for new admissions is:

• Aranjuez Campus: 40 places

• Móstoles Campus: 40 places

The degree in Translation and Interpretation will prepare you to work in very broad work contexts, mainly related to multilingual communication: as a translator or interpreter in the private sector, with the possibility of working as a freelancer. In that case, translators usually take the MAEC sworn translator exam that is held annually. You can also work for others, in national and international organizations, as well as in hospitals, embassies, and export/import and service companies. You will also be qualified to work in emerging fields such as localization or video game translation. Other areas where this profession is valued include the media (whether print or audiovisual), publishing houses, where translators are highly regarded as editors, as well as tourism. With this qualification, you will also have the opportunity to teach in various educational stages.
