Program Description

Alcohol and drug addiction, poverty, homelessness, abuse, racial inequalities –these topics aren't just the subject of local news, but compelling issues that tug at your heart.

You want to help people individually and help create society-level change.

As a social worker, you can create policy programs, research social issues, ignite and support social movements, counsel people, or connect them to needed social services. Whether you're on-the-ground assisting people or effecting change through policy and implementation, your dream is to see a just society where people thrive and have access to the support and resources they need.

Through UW-Superior's accredited social work program, you will be ready to assume professional responsibilities, while promoting social justice and development during your time as an undergraduate.

Did You Know?

  • UW-Superior's social work program is the only accredited public undergraduate program within a 150-mile radius.

  • All of our faculty members maintain social work licensure and continue in community practice as well as teach.
  • The Social Work Program completes an annual evaluation to stay current and meet Council of Social Work Education requirements.

About the School

About UW-Superior

More than just classrooms, labs, and big buildings, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has stood as a landmark in the City of Superior since 1893, impacting countless lives and careers along the way.

UW-Superior fosters intellectual growth and career preparation that emphasizes individual attention and embodies respect for diverse cultures and multiple voices. See the many ways we’re keeping that promise to our students, the community, and ourselves.

Mission

Throughout its history, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of people in northwestern Wisconsin and beyond by seeking knowledge and spreading it to all who may benefit.

Such commitment is reflected in its mission statement:

"The University of Wisconsin-Superior fosters intellectual growth and career preparation within a liberal arts tradition that emphasizes individual attention, embodies respect for diverse cultures and multiple voices, and engages the community and region." (Approved by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, Feb. 6, 2015)

To accomplish these ends, the University will:

Provide students with a carefully articulated and comprehensive foundation in liberal studies as a base for all degree programs. Award associate and baccalaureate degrees in selected fields in education, arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, business, and pre-professional programs. Offer graduate programs in areas associated with its undergraduate emphases and strengths. Extend its undergraduate and graduate resources beyond the boundaries of the campus through alternative delivery of programs. Expect scholarly activity, including research, scholarship, and creative endeavor, that supports its programs at the associate and baccalaureate degree levels, its selected graduate programs, and its special mission. Maintain an inclusive campus community that challenges students to develop their intellectual, personal, cultural, and social competencies. Engage in appropriate inter-institutional relationships and community partnerships to enhance educational and service opportunities. Foster, with the University of Wisconsin-Extension, the development of cooperative and general outreach programming and the integration of the Extension function with that of this institution.
