Program Description

Join us on a journey to discover our world and your place in it. Historians think critically about the world around us by studying past events and experiences that have shaped the present. As a History major, you will develop fundamental skills to prepare you for a variety of careers.

Receive personal mentoring throughout your college experience. From your first semester on campus, you will be paired with a History faculty member for advising. Green Scholars get graduate-level experience working side-by-side with faculty on original research.

Our current History majors have studied abroad in Cuba, Spain, and elsewhere; many acquire internships at local museums, historical societies, and libraries. The skills you will develop in research, analysis, writing, and technology are transferable and will open up a variety of opportunities to you.

From the Midwest (USA) to the Middle East, from Chile to China, our program provides survey level courses from a wide geographical perspective. Our faculty offer upper-level courses in specialized topics of interest such as Atlantic Slavery, World War II, the Black Death, and Twentieth-Century Latin American Revolutions, to name a few.

About the School

Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where thinkers and doers meet to better themselves and the world around them. The Pitt-Greensburg experience combines the resources and reputation of the University of Pittsburgh with the close-community feel of a small private college.

This is the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg: A friendly community of 1,500 full-time and part-time students, 251 employees, and over 10,000 alumni. Together, we enrich knowledge, build relationships, and grow opportunity in Western Pennsylvania and beyond.

As a member of the University of Pittsburgh network of schools, Pitt-Greensburg connects the best of big and small school environments: the resources of the University of Pittsburgh — one of the nation’s most prestigious research institutions — mixed with the individualized and immersive experiences of a small liberal arts college.
