Program Description

Students in the English M.A. program expand their understanding of the breadth of English language and literature while working with faculty to develop original research and expertise in an academic field of choice. The program stresses close mentoring with department faculty, professional development, and curriculum tailored to individual student interests. The English M.A. culminates with our innovative thesis in which students produce publication-ready writing to help them achieve their long-term creative and professional goals.

Besides meeting the University’s minimum standards for enrollment in the graduate program, the top applicants will hold a B.A. in English (or equivalent credit hours). They will submit two satisfactory letters of reference from current or past professors (or others familiar with the applicant’s scholarly potential).
