MA in Academic Practice

Our online Academic Practice programme has been purposely designed for applicants who wish to teach in higher education. No previous teaching or supporting learning experience is necessary, as you will develop the academic practice and employability skills required throughout your studies.  Three study awards are available for the online Academic Practice programme, beginning with the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) and progressing on to the Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Practice (PGDAP) and the full Master of Arts in Academic Practice (MA AP).   On the PGCAP award, you will begin to hone your academic practice and gain an in-depth understanding of higher education both in the UK and worldwide. The PGDAP builds on this knowledge to further develop academic leadership, scholarship, and pedagogic research in preparation for the MA AP. This full master’s programme then allows you to demonstrate your learning by completing a supervised academic practice project.   Active learning plays a fundamental part in the programme structure – with plenty of opportunities to demonstrate your understanding of educational concepts, barriers to learning, and your ability to apply pedagogical theory from varied global perspectives. You will also be encouraged to use international education frameworks to create lessons, set assignments, and design learning outcomes that can be applied to your own context or a global teaching space.  You will interact with peers across the world, as well as those already working in higher education, to give and receive feedback relevant to academic practice. Upon completion of your studies, you will be prepared to take your practice to the next level and enter the exciting higher education sector.

• A degree equivalent to a lower-second class UK bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

All applicants from outside the UK must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 (with all parts of the score being above a minimum of 6)  If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take our free online English test to assess your proficiency. You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree

An Executive Scholarship of 20% is available for the online MSc Cyber Security programme for our remaining intakes in the 2023/24 academic year.
