Program Description

What is it?

A special opportunity to obtain two MSc degrees from separate leading institutions on two continents.

An exciting new partnership has been established between the University of Leicester and Lingnan University, Hong Kong. This will allow students from each university to study an additional Masters degree over a shorter period by studying fewer modules.

Students must be studying on the following programmes to be eligible:

  • MSc Banking and Finance
  • MSc Financial Economics
  • MSc Business Analysis and Finance

How does it work?

Students complete a full 12-month MSc degree at either Leicester or Lingnan University before applying at the reciprocating university for a reduced study period.

Leicester graduates can complete a 6-month programme with Lingnan University if they study one of the specified Master's degrees and choose specific optional modules at Leicester and Lingnan. In comparison, Lingnan graduates complete an 8-9 month programme within the specified choice of Masters degrees at Leicester.

Thus, Leicester students can receive two MSc degrees after successful completion of 18 months of study whereas for Lingnan students, after successful completion of 20-21 months.

The reduced module load for the additional MSc degree is in recognition of the prior learning at one of the partner institutions.

Route 1: the University of Leicester followed by Lingnan University

During the academic year at Leicester, students will be able to apply for the MSc International Banking and Finance (MIBF) at Lingnan University by studying all the necessary modules at Leicester.

Applications will be assessed by both partner institutions. Students must obtain at least 60% grade in the specified modules below and progress satisfactorily in their studies when applying.

After completing studies at Leicester, entry to Lingnan University will begin in Term 2 (January) and include studying the module IBF614: Fixed Income Securities.

Route 2: Lingnan University followed by University of Leicester

Students coming from Lingnan University will register for a reduced 8-9 month programme at Leicester, depending on the modules chosen, to satisfy the requirements of either the MSc Banking and Finance or the MSc Financial Economics. Lingnan students are required to complete six 15-credit modules from a set list of available modules, as well as completing a 30-credit dissertation on a topic chosen in consultation with a supervisor.

Working in Hong Kong

Students who complete an MSc at the University of Leicester followed by a further 6 months at Lingnan University will have the opportunity to remain in Hong Kong and search for employment, under Hong Kong’s Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates, even if they do not hold a formal job offer.

Fees

Route 1 - 100% fees for the MSc you choose at Leicester, followed by 50% fees for the MIBF in Lingnan

Route 2 - 100% fees for the MIBF in Lingnan, followed by 60% fees for the MSc you choose at Leicester
