About the School

The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften - WiSo) is one of the largest social and economics faculties in Germany and is one of the larger of the eight faculties at the University of Hamburg. The faculty has undergone various changes since its founding in 2006. Since 2014, the faculty has been divided into three departments: Social Economics, Social Sciences and Economics. The approximately 80 professorships are assigned to the three departments.

Building on the experiences of the founding phase and by introducing a new organizational structure, the faculty is setting contemporary research priorities and offers an innovative study catalog.

Research focus and important participations

The scientists of the WiSo Faculty are involved in various research priorities, areas of potential and profile initiatives. Important research areas include:

  • DFG Research Training Group “Collective Decision-Making"
  • DFG Research Training Group “Managerial and economic dimensions of health care quality”
